Be Sporty, Be Healthy Hello, everyone!
I feel honored to be here to talk to you on exercise. We students are heavily burdened with school work, and thus spare little time for regular physical exercise.
However, we all need a sound body. So I suggest we fit exercise into our busy schedule, making it part of our daily routine. Put down our books to stretch our arms from time to time. Do some jogging and jumping every day. If we are able to make exercising our life habit, we will surely benefit from it both physically and mentally.
That’s all. Thank you. 听力原文 Text 1
W: I’m busy year in, year out(年复一年), but now I’ve done nothing. M: You’ve done a lot, my darling!
W: I may have done a lot, but none is to my satisfaction. M: You’re too strict with yourself. Text 2
M: Is this your car?
W: Yes, it is. I can’t find my key, but I want to go out. Text 3
M: Where shall we get off, at the cinema or the bookstore? W: Cinema.
M: I usually get off at the bookstore. It’s nearer to my school. All the same(尽管如此), let’s get off at the cinema.
Text 4
W: We are probably running out of time. It’s 11:10 now.
M: Don’t worry. The film will start in 50 minutes. Text 5
M: I lost my notebook. Can I borrow yours before the test?
W: I’m sorry. I’d like to help you, but I have to take it with me to work so I can study during my lunch break. Text 6
M: How was your trip?
W: ⑥It was amazing! I saw the Northern Lights. But it was freezing there! M: Yeah. It’s Alaska.
W: I did have a lot of fun. It’s fun to look at mountains, birds, trees, rivers and so on! M: ⑦Did you try the dogsled(狗拉雪橇)? W: ⑦No, I didn’t.
M: ⑦You are the most adventurous person that I know. How could you not try it? So disappointing. Text 7
W: Hey, Bob. What are you doing? M: I’m painting at home.
W: I didn’t know you like to paint. What type of painting do you like?
M: ⑧I enjoy oil paintings. I learned painting in one of my extra classes at my university. W: That sounds so interesting. ⑨I wish I had a hobby.
M: ⑨It’s never too late to start a new hobby. They offer a variety of classes at the local community college. You should look it up.
W: I think I will. Thanks for the information.
Text 8 (第12题为总结题)
M: Hello, everyone! ⑩Sorry I’m late for the class, but the snowstorm made it really difficult to get here. I see you’ve been waiting very patiently. So, let’s get started! Who wants to give a talk first? W: Oh! Oh! Please, please pick me. M: Anna?
W: Me? Sure. Thanks. Here is my report on “Violins in the City”. People have been looking for a solution to the problem of violins in the city. I say stop! Stop! They are not problems! In fact, violins are part of the solution! Violins create beautiful music that can fill a city with hope. M: Anna...
W: If we put a violin in the hands of every child...
M: Anna! ⑪The topic is “Violence in the City”. Violence. Not violins.
W: Until next time... Like what I was saying, many people are saying that violence in the city is a problem. A very big problem. Text 9
M: You mentioned that you are a fan of live music. I guess I don’t have to tell you about the concert on campus on Saturday. It’s supposed to be the best show of the year.
W: I know. ⑬⑯I wish I could be there but I’ve already promised Professor Mathers that I’d have all of the papers graded by Monday. I’m afraid I’m going to be stuck in my dorm all weekend. M: Why did you offer to do that? Did you forget about the concert, or do you really need the money? W: Actually, I really need to concentrate on studies this year. ⑭If I want to get into the education program, I will have to prove that I am serious about being responsible. It’s not about the money. I don’t get paid much considering all of the hours I put in. M: Well, it’s a pity that you’re going to miss the concert.
W: Yes. I can’t help feeling a bit jealous. Sometimes I wish I were still in my first year of studies. M: ⑮Well, I’ll tell you all about it on Tuesday. W: OK. Text 10
W: Each semester the counseling team runs a number of small group workshops. ⑱These last for two hours and are free to all enrolled students.
⑰Our first workshop is called Adjusting. In this workshop, we will introduce you to what is necessary for academic success. As you might expect, we’re targeting first-year students with this offering. ⑰Getting Organized follows on from the first workshop. Getting Organized is catering to a broader crowd, which includes all undergraduates and postgraduates.
⑰Next is a workshop called Communicating. The way people interact here may be quite different to what you’re used to, especially if you come from abroad. We’ll cover an area that many foreign students struggle with — how to talk with teachers and other staff.
⑰⑲The Anxiety workshop is held later on in the year and deals with something you will all be familiar with — the nerves and anxiety that come when exams are approaching.
⑰Finally, we have the Motivation workshop. The big topic here is how to stay on target and motivated during long-term research projects. ⑳This workshop is strictly for research students. Well, that’s it, thanks for your time.
