Dear Billy,
How are you doing? I'm writing to invite you to come with me to the amazing zoo in our city this Saturday! I went there last weekend with my parents and had the most incredible time. I can't wait to tell you all about it and show you the amazing animals they have there.
The first thing I want to tell you about is the huge elephant they have at the zoo. His name is Dumbo and he's absolutely gigantic! When we walked up to his enclosure, he was spraying himself with water from his long trunk. It was so funny to watch! Then he picked up some hay with his trunk and ate it. The zookeeper told us that Dumbo eats hundreds of pounds of hay, fruit and vegetables every single day. Can you believe how much food that big guy needs? He's way bigger than any elephant I've ever seen in books or movies.
After watching Dumbo for a while, we went over to see the lions. They were really loud and roared so intensely that it made me jump at first! But then I thought it was cool how ferocious they sounded. There was a big male lion lounging in the sun, and his mate was playing with their cubs nearby. They were so cute
but you could tell they were going to grow up to be ferocious hunters just like their parents. The zookeeper said that lions are apex predators and are at the top of the food chain. I had never heard that term before, but it makes sense because nothing hunts lions except for humans.
Next we went into the reptile house where they had all sorts of snakes, lizards and turtles. I have to admit, I was a little creeped out at first because some of those snakes were huge! But they also had some really cool and colorful snakes like the red milksnake and the yellow rat snake. Did you know that snakes can actually be really pretty and not just scary? The zookeepers there told us how important reptiles are to their ecosystems and that we shouldn't be afraid of them as long as we leave them alone. I think I like reptiles a little more now after seeing them up close.
The petting zoo was definitely one of the highlights for me. They had the cutest little goats, sheep, pigs, bunnies and even a cow that you could pet and feed. One of the baby goats jumped up and started licking my face which was really funny! And the cow was so big but also really gentle. She just stood there calmly while everyone petted her soft fur. The zookeeper explained that cows are herbivores who only eat plants and plants. They spend
most of their days just eating, resting and hanging out together. It seems like a pretty relaxing life if you ask me!
We finished out the day by attending the sea lion show and let me tell you, those sea lions were incredible! They were jumping through hoops, waving to the crowd, barking on command and even playing basketball. I had no idea sea lions could be trained to do such amazing tricks. At the end of the show, we got to go down and take pictures with them and their trainers. I'll definitely have to show you my awesome selfie with a sea lion!
So those are just some of the highlights from my trip to the zoo last weekend. There were so many other cool animals too like bears, wolves, reindeer, seals, and all sorts of birds. I really want you to experience it for yourself because no description can do it justice. We have to go this Saturday! My parents already said it would be okay for you to come over first thing in the morning. Just let me know if you can make it. I'll pack a big lunch for us to have a picnic when we get tired of walking around. Your mom and dad are welcome to join too if they want.
This is going to be an awesome adventure! I'm counting down the days already. Let me know as soon as you can if you're
able to go. I really hope you can make it because it won't be nearly as fun without my best friend there. Talk to you soon! Your pal, [Your Name]
