My Foreign Friend is Coming to Visit My Hometown! Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I'm so excited because my friend Emma from England is coming to visit me next week during our summer vacation! Emma and I met at camp last year and became best friends. We've been writing letters and video chatting ever since. I can't wait for her to see where I live!
Emma has never been to the United States before, so everything will be new and different for her. I've been making a list of all the fun places I want to take her in my hometown of Oak City. There's so much to see and do here!
First up, I'm going to show Emma my school. It's a big red brick building with lots of windows and a huge playground out back. I'll give her a tour and let her see my classroom, the gym, the cafeteria, and the library. The library is my favorite part - it has millions of books! Well, maybe not millions exactly but a whole lot. I love reading so I spend a bunch of time in there.
After the school tour, we can walk over to Oak City Park. It's right across the street and has a great playground with swings, slides, monkey bars, and more. There's also a walking trail that goes around a pretty lake where you can feed the ducks. Sometimes in the summer, they have concerts in the park too. We'll pack a picnic lunch to eat on one of the grassy areas. The next day, I think we'll go downtown and check out all the cool shops and restaurants. My mom says the main street used to be where people would buy groceries and other supplies many years ago. Now it's filled with boutiques, art galleries, cafes, and the best ice cream shop ever - Sally's Sweets! They have so many yummy flavors like chocolate fudge brownie, cookie dough, and Superman (which is blue raspberry, lemon, and vanilla swirled together). Emma loves ice cream so she'll definitely want to go there.
While we're downtown, we can stop by the Oak City Museum too. It's in an old firehouse building that's painted bright red. Inside they have exhibits on the history of our town from when it was founded all the way up to current day. There are antique fire trucks, displays of what classrooms and stores looked like 100 years ago, and a whole room filled with
arrowheads and tools used by the Native Americans who lived in this area first. I find all that old-timey stuff really fascinating! If Emma likes animals, I'll take her to the Oak City Petting Zoo and Farm Park. You can go into these huge barns and pet everything from bunnies and chicks to goats, ponies, and even a cow! Outside, they have fields where all the animals graze and hang out. You can buy buckets of food to give them too. One time, a goat stuck its whole head in my food bucket - it was so funny! The petting zoo also has an amazing playground designed to look like the insides of a barn or farmhouse. The slide looks like a ramp and the swings hang from poles made of twisted rope. So cool!
On Emma's last day, we absolutely have to go to Lake Waters. It's this giant lake on the edge of town with beaches, boat rentals, hiking trails, and more. We can rent paddleboats or kayaks and go cruising around the lake. Or maybe we'll try fishing - Dad says we can rent poles and bait if we want to do that. The lake has all these little bays, beaches, and picnic areas too, so we'll definitely pack snacks and drinks to have lunch there. And if it gets too hot, we can always go swimming to cool off! The water is the perfect temperature in the summer.
I just know Emma is going to love seeing all the best parts of my hometown. We'll make so many fun memories together. Oak City really is the greatest place on earth! Well, at least in my humble opinion. I can't wait for Emma's visit so I can show her everything. It's going to be the best two weeks ever!

My Foreign Friend is Coming to Visit My Hometown!
Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I live in a small town called Springdale. It's not a huge city, but I think it's the best place in the whole world! I'm so excited because my friend Emma from England is coming to visit me next month during our summer break from school. I can't wait to show her around my amazing hometown!
Springdale is located right near the Blue Ridge Mountains. The scenery here is just gorgeous with rolling green hills, sparkling lakes, and tons of trees and wildlife. I'm going to take Emma hiking on some of the trails so she can experience the stunning nature. We'll probably see deer, rabbits, and maybe even a black bear if we're lucky! I'll make sure to pack lots of snacks and drinks for our adventure.
In the middle of Springdale is our tiny downtown area with cute little shops and restaurants. I love going there with my parents! My favorite is the old-fashioned ice cream parlor that's been around since the 1950s. They have the most delicious flavors like chocolate fudge brownie, mint chip, and my all-time favorite - birthday cake ice cream loaded with sprinkles! Emma has to try it when she visits.
There's also a really cool vintage movie theater downtown that only plays classic films from a long time ago. The inside has old-school red velvet seats and the lobby is decorated with vintage movie posters. Maybe Emma and I can go see a fun musical like Singin' in the Rain or Mary Poppins there one night. Doesn't that sound like a blast?
My town has some fascinating history too. I'm going to give Emma a tour of the old colonial village that shows what life was like back when Springdale was first settled hundreds of years ago. All the buildings are preserved just like they were in the 1700s - the schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, farmhouses, and more. I'll pretend to be a teacher from the olden days and make Emma be one of my pupils! We can also watch the blacksmiths crafting tools and cooking over an open fire like they did long ago. It'll be like stepping back in time.
For a really cool experience, I want to take Emma to the county fair that comes to Springdale every summer. There's rides, games, farm animals, music, and the BEST funnel cakes you've ever tasted in your whole life! We'll go on all the wild
rollercoasters and try to win giant stuffed animals at the games. Emma has to play the classic game where you toss softballs at the milk bottles to try and knock them all down. I'm awful at it, but maybe she'll be better! No fair is complete without chowing down on cotton candy, caramel apples, and frozen lemonade too. I get so hyper from all that sugar!
Another awesome thing about my town is the huge water park they built a few years ago called Splash City. It has looping waterslides, a wave pool, a lazy river, and more. We can spend the whole day there cooling off and having a blast! I'll show Emma how to properly do a cannonball into the pool to make the biggest splash ever. We're going to be waterlogged prunes by the time we leave.
Nighttime in Springdale is magical in the summer too. Every few weeks, they hold concerts and movie nights out on the village green downtown. We can spread out a blanket, grab a bucket of popcorn, and watch a film or concert under a gazillion twinkling stars. It's such a fun experience! I'm crossing my fingers
they play Frozen 2 while Emma visits because she loves that movie as much as me. Maybe if we're lucky we'll see some deer wandering through the green while we watch!
Those are just some of the cool things I want to do with Emma when she comes to visit my awesome hometown of Springdale. Between the gorgeous nature, cute downtown, fun activities, and rich history, I know she's going to have an unforgettable experience here. She'll be so jealous that I get to live in the best little town ever! I can't wait for her to arrive so we can start our summer of adventures together. Springdale is about to get a whole lot more exciting!

My Foreign Friend is Coming to Visit My Hometown! Hi there! My name is Amy and I'm 10 years old. I'm so excited because my friend Emma from England is coming to visit me and my family in our hometown next week. Emma and I met at summer camp last year and we became best friends. We had so much fun together swimming, hiking, doing arts and crafts, and telling scary stories around the campfire at night. When camp ended, we were both really sad to go our separate ways.
But we promised to keep in touch and try to visit each other someday. Well, that someday is finally here!
Emma has never been to the United States before, so I know she is going to be amazed by everything she sees. I can't wait to show her around my awesome hometown. We live in a place called Pine Valley. It's a pretty small town, but I think it's just about perfect. The best part is that we're right near the Rocky Mountains, with beautiful snow-capped peaks all around us. In the winter, my family loves to go skiing, snowboarding, and tubing at the big resort up in the mountains. I'm definitely going to take Emma there to play in the snow since she's never experienced freezing cold temperatures and piles of fluffy white snow before!
But Pine Valley is awesome in the other seasons too. We have these gorgeous wildflower fields that bloom all around the town in the spring. Emma and I can go pick bunches of bright yellow sunflowers, purple lupines, and red indian paintbrushes. The fields make the whole valley smell like flowers! In the summer, we can go tubing and swimming in Pine River that runs right through town. The water is pretty cold since it comes from snowmelt up in the mountains, but it feels so refreshing on a hot
day. We can pack a picnic and spend the afternoon splashing around.
In the fall, all the aspen trees in the mountains turn bright gold. It looks like the whole forest is glowing! That's the perfect time of year for hiking and mountain biking on all the trails. I'll take Emma to see the waterfalls and incredible views from the top of Pine Valley Peak. The scenery around here is just breathtaking no matter what time of year it is.
My hometown also has some other cool attractions that I know Emma will love. We have a old ghost town called Prospector's Hollow just outside of town. All that's left now are rickety old buildings and rusty mining equipment from way back in the 1800s when there was a gold rush here. We can pretend to pan for gold in the stream and imagine what it was like to be a grizzled old prospector living out in the wilderness! So much fun. Right in the center of Pine Valley, there's this awesome indoor water park called H2OOO Yeah! It has huge twisting water slides, a wave pool, a lazy river, and a play area with water cannons and buckets that dump gallons of water on you when you least expect it. Emma and I can spend an entire day there having a blast.
And we can't forget about the Pine Valley County Fair that happens every September! There are carnival rides, a petting zoo, a rodeo with bull riding and calf roping, tractor pulls, and my favorite - the yummy town potluck where everyone brings their specialties like barbecue, cherry pie, and fresh corn on the cob. I'm going to eat so many sweets that my stomach will hurt! I'm also really excited for Emma to meet my family. I have a mom, a dad, an older brother named Jack who's 13, and twin little sisters named Lily and Rose who are 5. We like to have big family movie nights with popcorn and snuggle under cozy blankets together. I hope Emma will feel right at home with my crazy crew! I already warned my sisters not to bother Emma too much. They can be a little hyper sometimes.
Speaking of my family, we're throwing a big backyard barbecue to welcome Emma when she arrives. We'll grill up hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixins' and have potato salad, coleslaw, and my grandma's famous baked beans on the side. For dessert, there will be s'mores because you can't have a real backyard barbecue without s'mores! I researched some cool traditions in England so we can make Emma feel at home too. We'll have tea and crumpets in the afternoon and play classic games like cricket and croquet. My dad is even going to set up a
mini royal guard tent and let Emma take pictures pretending to be the Queen of England!
I just know Emma is going to love everything about Pine Valley. I'm a little nervous about how she'll react to seeing mountains for the first time since there aren't any where she lives in London. But don't worry, I'll be right there to hold her hand if she gets scared. I'll make sure she has the best time ever while she's visiting my hometown!
We only have two weeks together before Emma has to head back across the pond. So we're going to pack in as much hiking, swimming, sightseeing, and just plain silly kidventures as we can! Get ready Emma, you're about to experience small town America at its finest. I can't wait for all the amazing memories we're about to make!

My Foreign Friend is Coming to Visit My Hometown!
Hi there! My name is Alex and I'm 10 years old. I'm so excited because my friend Emma from England is coming to visit my hometown next week! Emma and I met at summer camp a couple years ago and we've been pen pals ever since. We can't wait to finally see each other in person again.
Emma has never been to the United States before, so I know she's going to love experiencing all the cool things my city has to offer. I've been making a list of all the places I want to take her. First up, we absolutely have to go to the children's museum downtown. It's huge and has so many fun interactive exhibits. My favorite is the bubble room where you can run around inside a massive bubble!
Next, I'm going to take Emma to the park near my house. It has the biggest playground I've ever seen, with towering slides, climbing nets, swings, and even a zipline! We'll definitely spend an entire day there. The park also has hiking trails through the woods, so we can explore and look for wildlife like squirrels, rabbits, and deer. I hope we spot a family of ducks swimming in the pond!
Of course, no visit is complete without trying all the yummy local food. We'll have to eat pizza from Mario's, which has been in my family for generations. The secret is in the sauce recipe that's been passed down. Emma is probably used to different toppings in England, so I can't wait for her to taste our version with pepperoni, sausage, and extra cheese!
For dessert, we'll walk over to Betty's Bakery and split one of her famous apple pies. The crust is perfectly flaky and the apples
are so sweet and cinnamony. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Betty's also has killer chocolate chip cookies the size of your head. We'll definitely need to get a few of those to go. If the weather is nice, I want to take Emma to the botanical gardens to see all the beautiful flowers. There are gardens themed after different countries, with plants and structures from all over the world. My favorite is the Japanese garden with the zen rock garden, bonsai trees, and pagoda. We can write poetry and do watercolor paintings there.
No trip home would be complete without a visit to my school. I'll give Emma a tour and she can sit in on my math and English classes. She'll probably think it's really different from schools in London! I'll also take her to the gymnasium so she can see the huge court where I play basketball. Who knows, maybe she's a secret basketball star!
In the evenings, my family loves to have movie nights in our backyard. We'll set up a projector and makeshift screen, then spread out blankets and snacks on the grass. Emma and I can pick some of our favorite movies to watch under the stars. It's even more fun when we can see the Milky Way streaking across the sky!
On the weekend, we'll drive out to the country and go fruit picking at the local orchards and vineyards. Emma can try her hand at picking fresh apples, peaches, strawberries, and grapes. We'll come home with baskets overflowing with sweet, juicy fruit to snack on all week. Maybe we can even bake a pie with the apples we picked!
I also want to take Emma hiking at the nearby state park to see the breathtaking mountain views. The trails wind through forests and meadows full of wildflowers. If we're lucky, we might catch a glimpse of a black bear, elk, or one of the eagles that soars above the peaks. Emma doesn't have scenery like that back in the city!
Before Emma heads home, we simply have to have a classic American backyard barbecue. We'll grill up juicy burgers and hot dogs, with all the fixins like cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, and ice cold lemonade are essential sides. For dessert, we'll roast s'mores over the firepit as the sun goes down.
I'm sure Emma will be exhausted after experiencing so much of my hometown in just one week! I can't wait to show her around all my favorite spots and give her a taste of American culture. Even though our countries are far apart, I know we'll
have an amazing time catching up on old times and making new memories. This is going to be the best week ever!

My Foreign Friend is Coming to Visit My Hometown! Hi everyone! I'm so excited because my friend Emma from England is coming to visit me and my family in my hometown next week. Emma and I met last year when her family came on vacation to stay at a resort near the beach where I live. We became really good friends that week and have kept in touch through video calls and messaging this whole past year. Now she's finally coming back to visit me in my town for her spring break from school!
I can't wait to show Emma all the best places in my hometown. First, I'll take her to the boardwalk along the beach. The boardwalk is my favorite place - it has an awesome arcade, lots of fun rides like the Tilt-a-Whirl and Ferris wheel, and the most delicious food stands selling things like funnel cakes, cotton candy, and foot-long hot dogs. Emma loves sweets so she's really going to love the fudge and saltwater taffy shops too. I hope the weather is nice enough that we can go for a swim in the ocean too!
Another place I really want to take Emma is to the science museum in town. It's three whole floors filled with the coolest hands-on science exhibits. There's a whole section on space with a planetarium and a mock-up of the International Space Station you can walk through. There's also an area with giant levers and pulleys to learn about mechanics, a room that's all about electricity with these crazy Van de Graaff generators that make your hair stand up, and my favorite - the dinosaur dig pit where you can use brushes to dig up fake dinosaur bones buried in the sand! Emma loves learning about animals so I know she'll have a blast there.
For a snack, we'll have to visit the Ridiculously Delicious donut shop that just opened up downtown. They have donuts topped with things like candied bacon, Fruity Pebbles cereal, and even donuts filled with Nutella or lemon curd. My mouth is watering just thinking about them! The owner is really nice too and always gives out free donut holes to kids.
I also want to take Emma to the huge park near my house that has a fun hiking trail through the woods. We can look for squirrels, rabbits, and blue jays while we walk along the creek that runs through the park. At the end of the trail there's an
awesome playground with zip lines, swings, climbing structures - you name it! We can spend hours just playing there.
In the evenings, we'll get to experience my town's warm summer nights. The ice cream truck still drives around
neighborhoods playing its iconic music, so we'll definitely need to chase it down for some bomb pops or Mickey Mouse ice cream bars. And when it gets dark, we'll go watch the latest superhero or Pixar movie at the vintage drive-in theater on the outskirts of town. You can't beat watching a movie outdoors under a sky filled with stars! It's so old-fashioned and fun. My family is really excited to meet Emma and to share our favorite hometown places with her. Mom is already planning to cook up a huge Southern-style feast one night with fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, cornbread, and banana pudding for dessert. She knows that kind of food is hard to find in England! Dad is looking forward to taking us fishing down at the town pier to try to catch some sea trout, redfish, or spotted sea trout. I hope Emma isn't squeamish about putting worms on a hook!
I just know Emma is going to love experiencing all the fun things my little hometown has to offer for a week. I'm so grateful she's making the long trip to come visit. It's going to be like
having a non-stop sleepover with my bestie! We're going to make so many amazing memories. I can't wait for next week to get here!

My Hometown
Hi! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. I live in a city called San Francisco in the country of the United States of America. My foreign friend Isabelle is coming to visit from France, and I'm so excited to show her around my hometown!
San Francisco is a really cool place. It's a big city right on the Pacific Ocean, with lots of tall buildings downtown. But it also has lots of hills and parks and nature too. The weather is pretty nice - it doesn't get too hot or too cold. Sometimes it's a little foggy though!
One of the most famous things in San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge. It's this huge bright orange bridge that stretches across the San Francisco Bay. You can walk or bike across it, or just admire the amazing views. I've been on it a bunch of times with my family.
Another super iconic San Francisco landmark is the cable cars. These are little streetcars that go up and down the really steep hills. They don't have engines - instead there are big underground cables that pull them along. Riding the cable cars is fun but also a little bit scary when you go over the hills!
In the neighborhood where I live, there are lots of cute little houses all different colors - blues, greens, pinks, yellows. The houses are built very close together and some streets are so steep they feel like little hills. My neighborhood isn't right downtown but it's not too far away either.
Near my house there are some fun places to go. A few blocks away is Golden Gate Park, which is a huge park right in the middle of the city with gardens, playgrounds, lakes, and even a Japanese garden and museums. My friends and I love riding our bikes around the park.
There's also the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, which is a museum with an aquarium, a rainforest habitat, a planetarium, and lots of cool science exhibits. Once I even got to touch a shark there!
Downtown is the perfect place to walk around and explore. You can go shopping, see street performers, and try lots of different yummy foods from all around the world. San Francisco
has amazing Chinese, Mexican, Italian, and so many other types of cuisine. My favorite food is probably a burrito from one of the little taco trucks.
The absolute best place to visit in San Francisco though is the waterfront area near the iconic Fisherman's Wharf. There are historic ships you can go aboard, fun museums like the
Exploratorium, beautiful views of the bay and Alcatraz island, and lots of street food vendors selling fresh seafood, clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls, and sticky sweet churros. I love the salty sea air and lively atmosphere!
I really hope Isabelle is going to love her visit! San Francisco has something for everyone - pretty sights, amazing food, cool museums and activities, and a really unique culture and vibe. I'm so lucky to call this wonderful city my home. I can't wait to show Isabelle around all my favorite spots. Maybe you can visit too someday!
