How to Stop Feeling Worried and Tired All the Time Have you ever felt super worried about something, even though you're not really sure why? Or have you ever felt just totally drained, like you have no energy left at all? Those feelings of being worried and anxious or mentally exhausted are no fun at all. The good news is that there are ways to stop feeling like that!
What Is Anxiety?
Anxiety is that feeling of being nervous, worried, or scared about something. Maybe you feel anxious before a big test at school because you're afraid you'll do badly. Or perhaps you feel anxious about fitting in with your friends or joining a new activity. A little bit of anxiety is normal, but too much can make you miserable.
What Is Mental Exhaustion?
Mental exhaustion is when you feel completely drained of energy, almost like your brain is too tired to work properly. You might find it hard to concentrate or make decisions. You could feel grumpy or upset more easily than normal. Mental
exhaustion can happen if you're super stressed for a long time or if you're taking on way too many activities. Why Do We Feel This Way?
There are lots of reasons why kids and adults experience anxiety and mental exhaustion. Major life changes like moving houses or starting a new school can bring it on. Having too many activities and not enough free time is another culprit. Sometimes there's no clear reason at all!
Whatever the cause, anxiety and mental exhaustion are linked. If you're constantly anxious and worried, it can completely drain your mental energy over time. And if you're mentally exhausted, you're more likely to catastrophize small problems into big sources of anxiety.
So what can you do to break this cycle of anxiety and exhaustion? Here are some tips that can really help: Talk It Out
Keeping anxious thoughts bottled up inside just makes them grow bigger and scarier. The fix? Talk to someone you trust about what's bothering you - a parent, teacher, counselor or good friend. Just getting those worries out in the open can make them seem so much smaller and more manageable.
Write It Down
Another way to get anxious thoughts out of your head is to write them down in a journal. You can vent by writing about whatever is bothering you. Or create a worry list and get those anxious thoughts on paper. Once they're written down, they don't need to keep spinning around in your mind anymore. Get Moving
Did you know exercise is a natural way to reduce anxiety and stress? When you're physically active, it releases chemicals in your brain that improve your mood and sense of well-being. Whether it's playing sports, going for a bike ride or just dancing around to your favorite music, moving your body is a great way to feel better mentally. Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness means focusing your awareness on the present moment. You can do this through deep breathing, meditation, or even just paying close attention to the sights and sounds around you. Practicing mindfulness helps your brain take a break from thinking about the past or worrying about the future. Fuel Up Right
What you eat and drink can impact how you feel mentally and physically. Making sure you eat a balanced diet with nutrients like protein, vitamins and minerals gives your brain the energy it needs to function well. Staying hydrated by drinking lots of water is important too. And don't go overboard on sugary snacks and drinks that can make you feel drained after an initial burst of energy. Sleep Tight
When you're overtired, you're much more likely to feel anxious, unfocused and mentally wiped out. Most kids need around 9-12 hours of sleep each night to be at their best. Having a calming bedtime routine like taking a bath, reading or listening to quiet music can help you fall asleep easier. Schedule Downtime
If you have too many activities crammed into your schedule, it's bound to lead to feeling overwhelmed and burned out. Make sure to schedule breaks where you have nothing planned at all. Use that free time to simply relax and recharge - play outdoors, read for fun, or just veg out. Having days with no activities gives your mind a chance to rest. Be Kind to Yourself
Sometimes we make things harder by being too hard on ourselves. If you make a mistake or struggle with something, don't beat yourself up over it. Treat yourself like you would treat a good friend - with patience, compassion and understanding. Negative self-talk only breeds more anxiety and mental exhaustion.
Putting some of these tips into practice can help stop the draining cycle of anxiety and feeling burned out. Of course, if your anxiety or mental exhaustion feels overwhelming, don't be afraid to ask a parent or trusted adult for help. They can make sure you get the support you need.
At the end of the day, feeling anxious and mentally drained is no fun. But there are lots of ways to feel better and get your mental energy back. Be kind to your mind, and it will be kind to you in return!
