The second-goal provisions about listening skills in English syllabus are: To be able to understand the discourses without new words , familiar themes, slightly lower difficulties. Currently many students are afraid of listening test , because they have the feelings that they are hopeless in simple test ,especially to understand passages and dialogues. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the obstacles and strategy decisions in the current situation of listening. Tradition thinking may lead us to consider that we always do not pay enough attention to the listening training until the final test comes. We ignored the principles of progressive listening skills training. It could not lead to achieve the satisfactory results.
Not all kinds of English movies could be used in listening aided teaching. First of all, the movie content used in the class should be healthy, and can not mislead the life-view, the world view and the value view of the students' . Basically students should be the key to selecting movies. Language and culture should be the basic principal.
The movie we choose should be loved by students. How much are their interests directly affects the positive degree of them . One interesting movie could fascinate people and help them concentrate on the focus. Stimulate their enthusiasm. If a movie is not attractive, it could return to traditional teaching even though it includes profound thoughts and rich contents .
It is also important to think whether the language is specific in selecting movies.The local accents of the actors in the movie do not affect the students'understanding the plots . Contrarily thought , it may help students to contact and recognize the different features in different regions and people. However , if the main part of the movie uses the local accent largely (like Negro use their internal English, slang and code word), it could inevitably affect students’opinion on this irregular language. It can not meet its target in normal sense. Culture is also a part of the teaching objectives, so we must choose the movie which could not only provide specification language but also could reveal the culture, history and social reality of Britain and the U.S.
