以前考据的时候提到过关于修兵69的来历。最喜欢的那个推论就是：那代表的其实是作为摇滚乐里程碑的1969年。1969年伍德斯托克音乐节是摇滚史上的盛会。也就是这场空前绝后的音乐狂欢，将摇滚文化推上了顶峰。
60年代精神在西方文化中的重要乃至于梦幻般的地位，也是我们每个人所熟悉的吧[……忘不了阿甘正传……]……70年代以后，以美国为首，开始陷入精神信仰和经济的双重危机，而69作为60年代的最后一年，回忆起来也就带了几分末日黄昏的苦味。
大家应该还记得加州酒店歌词中的那句’We haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’。这里的1969，象征的就是摇滚乐的巅峰。这句歌词暗示的就是自69年以后，摇滚乐就失去了最有力的精神内核。60年代的自由风潮爆发结束之后，取而代之的就是70年代的堕落。作为精神偶像的摇滚乐团几乎无一例外地转向性与*带来的虚幻安慰，可以想见这对于整个社会精神的影响。

然而关于Summer of 69的主题，相关的说法却很有意思.
作者Brian Adams在1980-2005自传中说，“这首歌与69年一点关系也没有，实际上这只是我对Bob Seger的"Night Moves"做出的回应——这是一首以性为主题的歌。”也就是说，按他的本意，'69不过是个文字游戏，他想唱的其实就是最后的那句"Me and my baby in 69"……=[]=

歌词中有句是"Jimmy quit, Jody got married"。这里的Jimmy是指Jim Wesley，80年代Adams所组的乐队中的鼓手。他离开了乐队，去做了地毯推销员，因为唱歌无法维持生计。Jody指的则是Jody Perpick，现在还是Adams的乐队经理和录音师。
